If you’re searching for the significant traditions of tribal relationship then the following might help you.

Commencement of the wedding

There are two basic divisions of tribal marriage as followed in other traditions. If it is an arranged marriage, the groom has the liberty to express his expectations of his future wife. The parents then interrogate to determine the rector who helps to find out whether it is the inception of good spirit to marry. Sometimes the boy might elope with a girl and he is made to enter the village only after performing the sacrifice of their native fauna. This is usually done by the priest.

Priest plays a mediator role

The priest then set off his journey to the bride’s native. He negotiates with the bride’s family members and gets their consent. An interesting part is that the tribes are usually not happy with marriage acceptance at the first visit itself. This is because they consider it to be the onset of bad spirit.

Other traditions

The tribes also encourage polygamy at a wider range. The younger brother in the family is bound to marry the wife of his brother after his death. This brings in new hope to the widow. They restrict wedding between direct cousins.

The marriage festival begins

The groom’s family must pack their things to spend four nights at the bride’s home. On their way, they reach hill top to shout and make sounds which is an indication of their arrival. They are given a grand feast strengthening their relationship.

The wedding rituals

The following events take place in Arunachal Pradesh wedding traditions. The three day events help to invoke affection among the couple.

  • Day 1 – A grand luncheon arranged by the bride’s family followed by late night boogie and parties. The women who are in disguise of men enjoy the party along with the groom.

  • Day 2 – The groom’s family reciprocate their love by arranging a grand feast.

  • Day 3 – They celebrate the happy marriage by splashing coloured paints on each other.

The bride’s arrival

After the three day events of fun, dance and music, the wedding is partially over. They send off the groom’s family to their native. The bride returns after a year to the groom’s family with the hope of long lasting relationship thereby giving a fulfilment to the entire marriage tradition. The bride’s family members convey her to the new family.
