Mayian The Punjabi Pre Wedding Rituals Performing Jaggo Fireworks and Ladies Sangeet

Mayian ceremony is very popular Punjabi wedding tradition comprising mainly of Batna ceremony- applying yellow paste of turmeric on the bride and groom body at their respective homes, choora (putting of ivory bangles),  jaggo ceremony- the dancing of family members near and around the streets.
 
Generally Mayian ceremony is conducted during evening times to perform a multitude of the rites which form a fundamental celebrations for the beautiful and tremendous Punjabi pre wedding celebrationMaiyan ceremony is actually cleansing and purifying, to be performed at both families at their respective homes. A minimum of five days  tradition is generally popular before wedding.red strings-(thread) is tied around the wrist of the bride and the groom. Red scarf is hold on the head of the bride or the groom. Traditional Songs are sung and are relished by all the members of the family. A ritual gift of goolgulay ( Punjabi sweets specially cooked for weddings at the end of the ceremony) is usually given to all the people. 
 
Jaggo- 
 
The mayian ceremony does not over here. It continues further by the singing and dancing of the families together. The homes are beautifully decorated and the copper vessel called jaggo is decorated divas (clay lamps)  which is filled with the mustard oil and is lit. The bride/ bridegroom’s maternal aunt carries the same on her head. While another lady of the family carries long stick with bells, which she shakes. The complete gathering of the relatives then goes to the next street relatives which are welcomed by them with sweets and the drinks. A huge enthusiastic dance is performed for few minutes, where from they move then to the next house.  It is a solemn ceremony filled with joy, dancing, fireworks, and food. 

The Grandeur of Sikh Wedding can easily be analyzed where the Beauty of Celebration is enhanced multi fold with the beautiful hues and colors of the outfits worn by the realitives of the bride and the groom. Not only does the bride carries her charm, but the relatives rather more than equally look fantastic. The Beauty of Turban, the heavy and bride colors of the suits of both males and females of the family become the charm of entire celebration luring the people all around with their gentle smile and traditional dances including bhangra and giddha which forces any one to tap feets on punjabi beats. No one can remain unmesmerized by the entire beauty of the celebration. 

The Ladies Sangeet (Ladies' Night of Singing) and Mendhi might follow the mayian and dinner.
